HEAVY rain and flooding have resulted in several road closures across Cheshire West today (Thursday, October 16).

Extremely wet conditions meant a yellow weather warning was issued by the Met Office yesterday, with flood water making a number of roads in the area impassable.

Some residents even had to be evacuated from their homes in Lower Kinnerton, near Chester.

Teams from the Council, police and fire are understood to be working to clear flooded routes.

Road closures

Ashton Lane to the east of Chester, specifically the section coming off the A54, has been closed as a result of flood water.

Also to the east of the city, Station Lane in Mickle Trafford, between School Lane and St Peters Way has also been affected.

With several residents evacuated from their homes last night, Main Road in Lower Kinnerton remains closed at the boundary with Flintshire.

Another rural route, Oldcastle Lane near Malpas, is also closed between the B5069 and Sunnyside.

Near Ellesmere Port there are also closures, including Little Stanney Lane – from the A5117 to Wervin Road/Picton Lane – and Parkgate Road.

Some major routes also have sections which have become unsafe to drive through, such as the A41, where is not currently possible to drive from Sainsburys roundabout to Broxton Roundabout, or from Broxton Roundabout to the A49.

Acres Lane in Upton is also closed between Caughall Road and Salters Lane.

Other smaller roads including Long Lane, Saughall, (A540 to Fiddlers Lane), B5132 Longlooms, Great Barrow (Lampits Lane to Broomhill Lane) and B5153 Hollow Lane, Mill Lane (Acton Bridge to B5152) are also closed.

Three-way lights are also in place on the A49 (Alvanley Arms PH).
