Police in Chester are urging residents to be vigilant after a vulnerable elderly couple were scammed by cold callers.
Officers from Chester Rural South Police posted they visited the victims of Wednesday, October 16, in the Waverton area.
Posting on social media, they reported: "A vulnerable elderly couple had cold callers who completed work of power washing the driveway.
"They quoted £1,000 for this work.
"On completing they asked to be paid by cheque, claiming that it would not scan they asked for another, processing both cheques the victims were unaware until they received their bank statement nearly a month later.
"A leaflet was left and, although convincing, the details are false."
Officers are warning residents to be wary of suspected rogue traders, particularly ones who cold call. They advise to check with Companies House if they are a legitimate trader, to ask for time to consider and get a written quote, and look to identify with details from a vehicle.
