A LAND Rover driver clocked speeding at 80mph on the M6 has been banned from the road due to ‘repeat offending’.
John Barry, of Holmes Chapel Road, Over Peover, Knutsford, entered a guilty plea at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court on October 10 to exceeding the speed limit.
The 82-year-old was caught on manned equipment driving a Land Rover on the M6 southbound in Cumwhinton, near Carlisle, at a speed exceeding 70mph.
The offence was committed at 9.22am on June 21, this year, the court heard.
The speed recorded by a Home Office type approved device was 80mph.
Barry was disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for six months.
Magistrates said disqualification was obligatory ‘due to repeat offending’.
His driving licence was endorsed with three points.
Barry was fined £320 and ordered to pay £128 victim surcharge and £110 costs.
Magistrates took his guilty plea into consideration when imposing the sentence.
The defendant was given until November 7 to pay the £558 court penalty.
