THREE fire crews were called to a street in Chester today (Friday, October 18) after a ‘deliberate’ fire was discovered within a tunnel.
Two fire engines from Chester and another from Ellesmere Port arrived at the scene near Fairfield Road at around 9.30am.
The fire, which involved items of rubbish, was discovered near the entrance to Limewood Fields.
A spokesperson for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus (BA) used a hose reel jet to extinguish a rubbish fire within a tunnel.
“The cause is suspected to have been deliberate. A search of the tunnel was carried out by the BA team to ensure no one was inside.”
