The North West Academies Trust (NWAT) held an exciting football tournament at Nantwich Town Football Club, bringing together eight primary schools from Chester and Cheshire for a morning of sport, teamwork and fun.
The NWAT Football Festival was a resounding success, with each team made up of pupils who had little to no prior football experience, making it a true celebration of inclusion and participation.
Teams from Acresfield Academy, Acton CE Primary Academy, Calveley Primary Academy, Delamere Academy, Grosvenor Park CofE Academy, Millfields Primary School, St Martin’s Academy and Weaverham Academy took to the pitch for a fun-filled morning of sport, designed to encourage participation and teamwork, allowing children to enjoy the game in a supportive environment.
Although some participants were initially a bit apprehensive about playing, they quickly embraced the spirit of the day, giving it their all and showcasing fantastic teamwork and determination.
The matches were refereed by students from Rudheath Senior Academy, another school within the Trust, who did a fantastic job ensuring the games were fair and enjoyable for all involved. Their professionalism and support added to the smooth running of the event.
There were plenty of goals and fancy footwork on display but most importantly there were lots of smiles and happy faces. It was clear that every child enjoyed the experience, regardless of the score.
Feedback from the pupils was overwhelmingly positive, with many saying they had a wonderful time and felt proud of their efforts.
PE lead at Acton CE Primary Academy, Jack Hollinrake, who organised the tournament, was delighted with how the day went.
He said: "We are incredibly proud of every child who took part today. It was fantastic to see the children come together, have fun, and support one another.
“A special thank you goes to Nantwich Town Football Club for hosting the tournament and providing a wonderful venue for the day’s activities.”
The event highlights NWAT’s commitment to inclusivity in sports and education, ensuring that all children, regardless of their background or experience, have the opportunity to participate in enriching and confidence-building activities like this.
CEO of North West Academies Trust, Steve Docking OBE added: “The tournament wasn't about winning or losing; it was about giving every child the chance to be part of a team, make new friends, and try something new.
"We couldn't be happier with how the day went."
