A GOLF driving range has submitted plans for padel courts at its site.
Chester and North Wales Golf Academy, situated just off Chester Road in Bretton, near Saltney, has lodged a planning application with Flintshire Council.
It is seeking permission to build two extra golf coaching bays, as well as the installation of three padel courts to the east of the driving range building.
Padel is a form of tennis which originated in Mexico in 1969 and grew across South America before making its way to Spain. It is now rapidly expanding across Europe and recognised by the Lawn Tennis Association.
"The applicant already provides some existing coaching at the facility via four coaches operating seven days a week between them. But new and additional facilities required to meet an increasing demand and to provide private coaching space away away from the publicly accessible bays. The two bays will also be multi-purpose, with a screen and indoor simulator for use when outside of coaching hours.
"In respect of the three padel courts, the Tennis Wales Padel Development Plan sets out a firm commitment to deliver new padel courts across Wales.
"At time of writing, there are no operational padel courts in the county of Flintshire to serve its population. This proposal would make a positive contribution towards meeting the ambitions of the Tennis Wales Padel Development Plan."
