A Chester care home is inviting the community to a special art exhibition for Remembrance Day.

Care UK's Deewater Grange, on Chester Road, will host the event on Saturday, November 9, from 2pm to 4pm.

The exhibition will feature artwork by residents, created as a tribute to the British Legion.

The residents, including 80-year-old Geoffrey Chew and 87-year-old Sally Webster, have produced an array of drawings depicting poppies and other Remembrance Day symbols during art therapy sessions.

Sally Cooper, home manager at Deewater Grange, said: "We are so proud of the team and residents who have created a beautiful display for such a worthy cause.

"This time of year holds a special meaning for many residents, especially those who lived through the Second World War, served in the armed forces themselves, or had family members who did, and getting creative during art therapy sessions offers residents a way to reminisce and share treasured memories."

Mr Chew, who invented a water flow measurement tool in his garden shed during his younger years, now enjoys art therapy classes.

Ms Webster, another resident, delights in painting watercolour flowers from scratch.

The artwork created is a tribute to the British Legion (Image: Supplied) Ms Cooper added: "Art therapy plays a huge part in life here at Deewater Grange, so we were delighted to put our colouring pencils and paintbrushes to paper to mark such an important day.

"Arts and crafts are incredibly beneficial for older people, as it can prompt conversations and have a calming effect, particularly those living with dementia, by providing a sense of purpose."

Deewater Grange is a 'state-of-the-art' care home, providing full-time residential, dementia, and nursing care.

It is designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives while promoting independence.

The building incorporates space for hobbies and leisure activities, including a café, bar, cinema, and hair and beauty salon.

The layout is configured into a series of individual suites, each with a dedicated lounge/dining room to help create close-knit communities.
