A CINEMA in Chester city centre has unveiled details of a celebratory weekend to mark its first birthday.

It will include £1 tickets for one of the screenings.

Chester Picturehouse is incredibly excited to announce a celebratory weekend for its first birthday, marking an entire year of bringing the best cinematic experiences to the local community.

Since opening its doors in October 2023, Chester Picturehouse has become a vibrant hub for both the casual movie-goer and the hard-core film enthusiast alike, showcasing a diverse range of films, from blockbuster hits to indie gems, and even live event cinema.

To celebrate the milestone, Chester Picturehouse will be hosting a series of special film screenings, a live film quiz, giveaways and much more across the second weekend of November, offering cinema-goers an unforgettable experience.

Alf McClean, general manager at the venue, said: "Celebrating our first year here in Chester, we’re truly grateful for the warm welcome we’ve received from the community.

"It’s been wonderful to see so many local residents, groups, and organisations make the cinema their own—from joining us for film seasons with Chester Film Society to hosting events with Chester Heritage Festival and Pride.

"Seeing this space come alive with the diverse stories and voices of Chester’s people has made our first year unforgettable, and we’re excited for all the moments still to come."

Highlights of the weekend include:

A rare opportunity to see cult-classic Oxide Ghosts: The Brass Tapes with a very special live introduction and post-screening Q&A with director Michael Cumming where he will both build and shatter the myths of Brass Eye. This will take place on Saturday 9th November at 14.00.

Radio 1 host and acclaimed film critic Ali Plumb will be hosting his popular Untitled Film Quiz Project on Saturday 9th November at 19.00, which promises an evening of spot prizes, absurd music rounds, perplexing motion picture puzzles and the occasional nerdy joke.

A special screening of the iconic Wes Anderson film The Grand Budapest Hotel, which inspired the cinema’s stunning interior décor, will take place on Sunday 10th November at 16.50, and tickets for this screening are just £1 each!

Two brand-new film releases including the exciting new instalment of the best-loved British-Peruvian bear adventures Paddington in Peru, and Saoirse Ronan’s latest feature Blitz, which both open on Friday 8th November, with tickets on-sale now!

The event will take place at Chester Picturehouse, Unit 10, Hunter Street, over Saturday, November 9, and Sunday, November 10.
