CROWDS gathered in Chester as the city marked Remembrance Sunday.
Many attended the Remembrance Sunday service at Chester Cathedral, with a two-minute silence being held at 11am at the war memorial in the Cathedral grounds.
Local dignitaries and those from the city’s military community were in attendance including veterans from The Cheshire Regiment; the Lord-Lieutenant of Chester, Lady Redmond; the Duke of Westminster, Hugh Grosvenor; MP Samantha Dixon, and the Lord Mayor of Chester, Cllr Razia Daniels, who led the city’s Act of Remembrance.
The service was led by the Dean of Chester, Revd. Dr Tim Stratford, who was joined by Vice Dean, Revd. Rosie Woodall and other members of the Cathedral’s leadership team.
Standards were lowered and multiple wreaths were laid at the memorial, as the community gathered to salute the fallen.
‘The Last Post’ was played by Mandy McDonald of the City of Chester Band.
Also in attendance were representatives from Chester Sea Cadets, the King’s School Army Cadets, the Medical Regiment, the Gordon Highlanders, and the Royal Irish Rangers and many others.
A parade also took place through the city centre, travelling from Bridge Street to Town Hall Square.
