ELLEMSERE Port will switch on its Christmas lights with Mayor Cllr Paul Donovan on hand to throw the switch at the Civic Square on Friday, November 29.
A traditional lantern parade around the town centre will be led by Chester’s Karamba Samba band. Over 100 local school children will join the parade with their hand made lanterns before the light switch on countdown. Artist Russell Kirk will be bringing the giant Queen of Light puppet, the Stag, Unicorn, Jack Frost and Angel.
A range of activities will be running from 4pm until 6.15pm including free children's rides, live entertainment from local schools and singers, food and drink plus a visit from Father Christmas supported by Ellesmere Port Round Table. Following the switch on Santa will be starting his streets visits.
The local schools taking part in this year’s Lantern parade are Brookside Primary, Cambridge Road, Wolverham Primary and Whitby Heath.
Children from Brookside Primary have made the star on top of the Ellesmere Port Christmas Tree this year. Every child and staff member added a thumb print to Christmas baubles attached to the star.
The Mayor of Ellesmere Port, Councillor Paul Donovan said: “I’d also like to thank EET Fuels and Encirc who have kindly sponsored our fabulous Christmas Tree and the festive lights. Thanks also to the generous support from Ellesmere Port Councillors, and our Charter Trustees.
“Most of this event is free, I’m looking forward to sharing our lights switch on with Ellesmere Port residents. Happy Christmas Ellesmere Port.”
