A cottage in a Cheshire village could be flattened to make way for a new house.
An application has been made to Cheshire West and Chester Council to demolish Wayside Cottage in Manley.
The work would involve flattening the existing property and outbuildings on New Pale Road and constructing an entirely new four bedroom home in its place.
The existing site comprises a semi-detached dwelling, with outbuildings and a large garden. There is an existing access driveway to the east of the house, leading from Manley Common.
A design and access statement submitted in support of the application said the applicants own Wayside Cottage and the attached property known as 'Tiree'. They would like to detach Wayside Cottage from their family home and build a replacement dwelling next door for their children. The document said it would be a self-build project.
The statement said: "The property is in a poor state of repair and requires a full scheme of renovation.
"The applicant, who owns the attached property, Tiree has now purchased Wayside Cottage and considered applying to change the building back to two cottages. However, due to the condition of the building, the internal layout and scale, the applicant would prefer to demolish the existing building, in order to create a single, modern, sustainable home."
Wayside Cottage is situated on Manley Common, close to Helsby, Frodsham and the villages of Mouldsworth and Ashton.
The cottages was formerly part of a row of three farm workers' cottages, with large garden areas for growing produce. The area itself is designated as Green Belt and an Area of Special County Value.
The application said any replacement building would be aim to create the appearance of a traditional cottage. It added: "The design is simplistic in form, being essentially a rectangular, pitched roof building. Details, including the chimneys, dormer windows and pitched storm porch add rural character."
