A TALENTED actor and singer from Upton, Chester is celebrating her role in the newly released and eagerly anticipated Hollywood adaptation of Wicked.
Jasmine McIvor, 26, appears as ‘Winkie Mother’ in the film’s dazzling opening sequence, showcasing her acting, singing and dancing alongside pop superstar Ariana Grande, who plays the part of ‘Glinda’.
Following her successful casting, Jasmine spent an unforgettable month in April 2023 on set in Hertfordshire. She worked with the film's production team, which included acclaimed director Jon M. Chu.
Reflecting on the experience, Jasmine shared:
“Being part of the film adaptation of such a globally renowned and beloved musical is a truly special moment for me. It's been an incredible privilege, and I feel immensely proud and honoured to contribute to this iconic production."
Beyond her on-screen role, Jasmine's vocal talents shine on the movie's soundtrack. She sings on the song ‘No One Mourns the Wicked’, delivering a few solo lines under the recording guidance of Stephen Schwartz, the legendary composer and lyricist behind the original Broadway production.
Jasmine's passion for the performing arts began at Upton High School and was nurtured at the Hammond School in Chester. She graduated from East 15 Acting School, one of the UK's leading institutions for acting, where she honed her skills in acting and singing. This solid foundation has supported her ongoing career in the industry.
Former teachers, friends, family, and acting community colleagues are excited to see Jasmine's success in such a high-profile, big-budget film. Her former mentors, in particular, are proud to witness her talent and hard work being recognised.
During the four weeks of filming and recording, Jasmine shared her on-set thoughts and experiences: “Working on such a major professional film production was amazing, and singing and dancing alongside Ariana Grande was truly special. I found her down-to-earth and friendly between scenes and set changes.”
Jasmine first experienced the magic of Wicked when she watched the musical in London at the age of 12. At the time, she never imagined she would one day appear in the movie adaptation. Her role in the Wicked movie marks a significant milestone in her career, bringing her talent to audiences worldwide.
With her sights set on exciting new projects, Jasmine plans to take on new opportunities in 2025 and beyond.
