HUNDREDS of jobs will be created after one of the biggest names in discount retail chose Ellesmere Port to be the home of its new state-of-the-art distribution centre.
B&M, with stories all over the country, will occupy the brand new 674,265 square feet centre close to the River Mersey on the outskirts of the town from 2025 onward.
A spokesman for the town saif the centre will underpin the company’s plans to expand to at least 1,200 stores as well as its operations into mainland Europe.
They said: “This landmark facility will strengthen B&M’s infrastructure, enabling efficient distribution across its rapidly growing store network for years to come.
“The new facility will support B&M’s ambitious UK expansion plans, which include increasing its store count to at least 1,200 locations.
“In the past six months alone, B&M has opened 30 new UK stores, in addition to four Heron Food stores and five stores in France.
“The distribution centre will enhance B&M’s import capabilities and complement the operations of its existing five distribution centres, ensuring streamlined logistics and operational efficiency.”
The spokesman explained the facility will be running for a decade, in the first instance, and says its location was chosen to take advantage of both road, rail and river links to Liverpool.
The added: “The building spans an impressive 674,265 square feet, being designed with cutting-edge energy-efficient features, it includes solar panels, rainwater harvesting systems, and the use of recycled materials, embodying modern eco-conscious construction practices.
“The facility will operate under a 10-year lease agreement with real estate investor Cain International.
“Firethorn Trust will manage the site on behalf of Cain International.
“The facility will play an important role in supporting our expanding logistics network and store footprint across the UK.
“Strategically located near key transport links, including the Manchester Ship Canal, the Port of Liverpool, and major motorways, the new site is positioned to ensure seamless logistics operations.
“The site will create hundreds of skilled jobs and training opportunities, providing a significant boost to the local economy in Ellesmere Port and the broader Merseyside region.
“B&M’s strategic investment in Ellesmere Port underlines its commitment to sustainable growth, operational excellence, and community development.
“This new facility reflects the company’s forward-thinking approach to logistics and its dedication to supporting both its customers and the environment.”
