A BUSY Chester Street is set to be closed for the first four months of 2025, Cheshire West and Chester Council highways has announced.

A road closure notice has been issued for St Anne Street towards St Oswald’s Way from January 6 until April 18, 2025.

The notice set out that the road is expected to be closed close to Chester fire station up to the main road that runs through the heart of the city to make improvements to the junction.

It said: “Notice is hereby given pursuant to the provisions of Section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 that Cheshire West and Chester Council has made an order.

“(This) will be to temporarily prohibit/restrict traffic on the following length of road in Chester City and the Garden Quarter Ward to enable junction improvement scheme works to be carried out by Cheshire West and Chester Council.

“(It will be) just after the fire station to its junction with St Oswald’s Way from January 6 to April 18.

“Nothing in the order shall prevent driving upon the said lengths of road of any vehicle which is being used for the conveyance of persons goods or merchandise to or from any premises situated on or adjacent to the lengths of road or in connection with agriculture building construction works of repair and the like or use in an emergency of vehicles for fire brigade ambulance or police purposes.

“A through route will not always be available and any vehicles not requiring access to properties on the length of road should use the alternative routes.

“The order will come into force on January 6, 2025 and will continue in force for a period not exceeding 18 months or until the works which it is proposed to carry out have been completed whichever is the earlier.

“It is anticipated that the works will take approximately 15 weeks to complete.

“Alternative routes for through traffic should proceed via St Anne Street – Black Diamond Street, Hoole Way, Hoole Way Roundabout, St Oswald’s Way, Fountains Roundabout, St Oswald’s Way, or, proceed via St Oswald’s Way – Hoole Way Roundabout, Hoole Way, Black Diamond Street, St Anne Street.”
