A PAIR of Girl Guides from Ellesmere Port have raised more than £1000 for the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre following an impressive cycling challenge.
Flo and Laila, from 6th Whitby (Methodist) Brownies in Ellesmere Port took on a sponsored bike ride, covering 11.9 miles of the Wirral Way cycle path from Willaston to West Kirby as they looked to raise vital funds for the facility.
Girlguiding Wirral – which includes the Ellesmere Port area – said they were proud to present the pair with their 'Hero Awards' this week, following their hard work.
Laila’s mum said: “Laila decided she wanted to do an event to raise money for Clatterbridge Cancer Charity because of how well the centre were taking care of her Grandad. When she told her best friend Flo what she was doing, Flo immediately wanted to support her friend and do the event with her.”
Jenny Brown, lead volunteer for Girlguiding Wirral, said: “My county president Cath and I were very proud to present Flo and Laila with Hero awards for their determination! These amazing brownies have worked together, with family support, and raised an amazing amount of money for the Centre. Flo and Laila were nominated for the award by their Brown Owl Sue in recognition of them going above and beyond!”
