JAN VAN DEVENTER believes Chester Rugby Club is in rude health and will continue to go 'from strength to strength'.
A thrilling 26-20 victory over Hull Ionians last weekend saw Chester stake a solid claim for the National League Two North title as they moved to within a point of the summit.
And while his own side's impressive exploits this term have drawn the plaudits, head coach Van Deventer says that bringing success to Hare Lane has been a collective effort.
He said: "This success hasn’t happened overnight at the club, it’s been a gradual process and down to the hard work of a lot of people here.
"The first team are often the focus, but the seconds and third are in a really good place right now too and enjoying strong seasons.
"The work the club did last summer on the ground to provide us with great facilities and an excellent playing surface have certainly helped in that respect.
“It feels like the club as a whole is on the up and going from strength to strength, so it’s great to be a part of that."
Chester return to action at 10th placed Stourbridge on Saturday, with Van Deventer keen to build on the momentum of last weekend.
“I think it’s important that we use the momentum of the Hull result to full effect now”, he added.
“Our away form has let us down at times this season and I’m looking for that to improve over the remainder of the season now.
“We just about edged out Stourbridge earlier in the season, so I’m sure they’ll have a score to settle at their place.”
Back row Shay Owen will retain his place for the visitors, with his standout performance against Hull earning him the National Two North Player of the Week award.
Craig Ross misses out with a pectoral injury, while Sean Green and Alick Croft are both in contention after injury.
Current leaders Fylde head to Hull, while fourth-placed Huddersfield visit Hinckley.
Sheffield Tigers host Preston Grasshoppers, Otley head to Tynedale, Wharfedale entertain South Leicester, Macclesfield travel to Leicester Lions, while basement side Peterborough Lions face Sedgley Park.
