CALUM MCINTYRE is hoping that his Chester side will soon be able to take off.

The Blues, who have won two of their last three matches in the league, are in FA Trophy action on Saturday with their trip to Northern Premier League Premier Division side Gainsborough Trinity.

Then, next Tuesday, they will head to Leamington in National League North.

While not yet firing on all cylinders, Chester boss McIntyre is hoping that will soon be the case.

He told Chester FC TV: "We really want to try and take off now?

"Where do we take off? It's away from home.

"That needs to continue next week in the FA Trophy at Gainsborough.

"Then we need to go to Leamington with that game in hand where, like I say, we can be in and around those play-off positions.

"We've got more points than we had this time last year.

"If we can improve the points tally away from home, I think you'll see us climb that table.

"But, it's all well and good saying that.

"We need to do that in terms of results and we need to put performances on."

Chester go into the tie following on from a battling 1-0 league triumph away to Needham Market.

This latest three-point haul arrived courtesy of a late header from Harrison Burke and McIntyre has had praise for the goalscorer.

He added: "It's just always brilliant when Burkey scores!

"It almost feels like one-and-a-half goals and he deserves that."

It looked like the Blues would have to be satisfied with a point as it remained goalless until the closing stages, but Chester finished on the front foot to record a 1-0 success, secured by Burke's header five minutes from time.

Burke told Chester FC TV: "I thought we knocked at the door a lot, but obviously it was me that scored today and I'm not just going to take the praise.

"I thought the whole team did brilliant today.

"That's our first clean sheet, I think, on the road, which we're all buzzing about.

"That's a team thing and then we needed to get three points as well, and we did."

A corner into the six-yard box was headed in by Burke to break the deadlock late on and it perhaps should have been a more comfortable winning margin for Chester.

A moment of madness from Needham Market keeper Marcus Garnham saw him sent off and the Blues were awarded a penalty.

Kurt Willoughby's attempt was saved by substitute goalkeeper Danny Cullum.
